Embracing the Creative Clutter
Share
I look at my work space and think, "What a mess." I look at my sisters art studio and think, "That's so creative!"
There are plenty of strategies, techniques and even courses to help control the mess in our lives. You can even pay for some of them. But, I can't help wondering how much the clutter really needs to be controlled. Maybe balancing it is a better approach.
However, right now I'm even running out of places to put piles in my work studio, so periodically I try my own special strategies. For example I'll clear ten things off my desk each day with each item being finished, put away or disposed of. I have to tell you, my desk still isn't empty. As fast as I clear things off, new tasks pile up. Then there is my maker's desk. It's a mess too. I have even told my sister, Sophie, that I'll work on the new beads as soon as I organize this work space. Hmmm...that hasn't been going real well, so now, I'm going to take a new approach. I'll walk very slowly and carefully up to my work desk, pick up one item and think, "This goes here!" and I'll put it away. I'll only clear away as much as I need to in order start creating again. What are we going to do? Will we live creative lives or tidy lives? I'll vote for the creative every time!
